Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is an important part of the governance cycle of SEDA.

It is an opportunity for the board to share the challenges and successes of the organization and hear from its membership. The membership will vote on:

motions brought forward,
appointments to the Board of Directors,
review audited financial statements, and
elect auditors for the new year.

There will also be an opportunity for dialogue with members at the AGM.

For the purposes of the AGM only clubs with paid memberships can vote.

Our AGM will be held online, Monday October 16, 2023 at 6pm.

Speech and Debate Academy

Speech & Debate Academy (SDA) is an after-school program where youth have an opportunity to learn and practice public speaking and debate skills. They will be encouraged to express their own opinions in thoughtful and creative ways.

To increase accessibility, classes are available both in-person and online.

British Parliamentary Qualifier

The BP Qualifier is open to students in grades 7 to 12 with previous experience in British Parliamentary Style. Previous experience may include instruction from a debate coach, workshops, and/or tournaments.

Teams who are invited to the National British Parliamentary Championships will be notified 1 hour after the Tournament. Teams will need accept or decline their invitation be Monday October 23^rd at 2:00 PM.

Speech Tournament 1

Join us for the first speech tournament of the season!

All students will compete in the interpretative reading and persuasive speaking categories. The top 3 students in each division will move on to compete in the finals, which will be an impromptu speech. You can learn more about the speech categories by clicking the button below!

Tournament registration opens on our website two weeks before the tournament date and closes one week before the tournament date. Each competing student needs to complete a registration form.

If a location it listed as TBD, that means 'to be determined.' We will confirm event locations as soon as possible on the event pages.

Spotlight on Debaters

Lucas Le and Samuel Wardell were selected to give Tedx Youth presentations at Walter Murray Collegiate, May 2023. Both Lucas Le and Samuel Wardell have debated with SEDA for many years. They were instructors at the 2023 Debate Camp, participated at national competitions, and have mentored debate clubs.

We’d like to celebrate their success and share their Tedx Youth presentations with our members.
