We would like to wish everyone a joyous and fun-filled festive season! We will be closed from December 21 to January 2nd, 2024. The office will re-open on January 3, 2024. Happy New Year! |
The mid-season rankings list was emalied to parents, coaches, and students. This is done so members can know the likelihood of students being invited to the E.C. Leslie Provincial Championship and National Championships. If a team’s score is currently above our threshold for a national event invitation, parents will also be sent the details for the national events. Complete qualifying criteria for the E.C. Leslie Provincial Championship and National Championships can be found on our website. |

I like the speech and debate classes for two reasons. My first reason is that you get to have more friends, then you can share your answers or check your answers. My second reason is you get to learn about speech and debates in general. You are probably going to have problem or have a tough concept, so this definitely helps. Also if you're debating you're maybe going to forget what to say in your debates or how to say it and that’s ok but to have a strong concept/reason you need to figure out what to say and how to phrase it. So these classes are very helpful. Alexander, Grade 6 |

Tournament 5: The Environment All divisions Hosted by Luther College High School in Regina Tournament 5 was held as part of our environmental series featuring workshops delivered by Dr Krystopher Chutko, Assistant Professor and Chair of the Environment & Society and Hydrology Program at the University of Saskatchewan 78 students registered and attended the workshop series. This engaging series was designed to provide the debaters with fact-based information to better contextualise their arguments and the debate. During part of the presentation, Dr Chutko asked students to identify pictures of different energy sources. Giddy to answer, the students quickly unmuted and shouted their answers. After the presentation was done, the elementary students stayed an extra 30 minutes to ask Dr Chutko questions. Many of their questions centered around what they could personally do to combat climate change. I left the presentation feeling inspired and hopeful for the future after seeing the eagerness to learn more about climate change and seeing their investment in creating a better environmental future. Sanjana, SEDA Tabs Coordinator Prepared Elementary Motion: This house believes scientists should decide environmental policy instead of politicians. Impromptu Elementary Motion: This house would ban private car use in cities. |

Canadian National British Parliamentary Championship |
|
|
The Canadian National British Parliamentary Championship was held in Winnipeg, Manitoba from November 17th to 19th. Three Saskatchewan teams attended. All three teams broke, meaning they made it to the final rounds! Some of the motions debated included the following: Junior Division: - This house believes teachers should contradict curriculum that they believe would be harmful to society
- This house would prioritize housing over green space and conservation
- This house prefers systems where high ranking police executive positions are elected, over systems with appointments (semi-final motion)
Senior Division: - This house believes that gig economy workers (e.g. Uber and doordash drivers) should be classified as employees with full labour rights
- As the United States, this house would advocate for global decoupling from China.
- As liberal democracies, This house would intervene to protect elected governments from military coups (grand final motion)
