As we launch this season, we are grateful for all the support you have given to SEDA over the past 50 years. We look forward to continuing the legacy.

As we move into our 50^th year, we do so determined to secure our future, and to continue to advance critical thinking skills among youth in Saskatchewan. As such, SEDA will pursue exciting fundraising initiatives including a campaign to raise $10,000 to directly support our programs!

Over the past 50 years, we have been honoured to have hundreds of volunteers who have supported our mission. This year, we will take time each month to highlight, honour, and celebrate their contributions.

As we get ready to welcome all our members this season, I am happy to confirm that we will have in-person Speech and Debate Academy sessions in Saskatoon and Regina led by very experienced staff.

I look forward to seeing you this season and look forward to celebrating our 50^th anniversary with you!

Spotlight on Debaters

I really liked debate camp because the debate rounds were fun and I loved the topics. It helped me a lot on my critical thinking. All the instructors are very nice and friendly. The feedback from rounds and practice was really usefull, and the games were so fun. I loved making new friends too! Thank you SEDA!

Speech and Debate Academy

Speech & Debate Academy (SDA) is an after-school program where youth have an opportunity to learn critical thinking skills and practice public speaking and debate. They are encouraged to express their own opinions in thoughtful and creative ways.

Classes are available for students in Grades 5 to 10.

Classes are available in Saskatoon, Regina, and online.

We are also offering an advanced Debate Academy class in Saskatoon led by accomplished debate coach Elyn Achtymichuk-Hardy.

Referral Program

Receive a $15 credit towards a SEDA program for referring a new member!

We are excited to implement a referral program this year. If a returning student member successfully refers a new student to join SEDA, the returning student receives a $15 credit towards their next SEDA program. Once the new member joins, the credit will be allocated automatically to the referring member.

Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is an important part of the governance cycle of SEDA.

It is an opportunity for the board to share what SEDA has been doing this past year, and answer any questions you might have.

For the purposes of the AGM only clubs with paid memberships can vote. The membership will vote on:

review audited financial statements
motions brought forward,
appointments to the Board of Directors, and
elect auditors for the new year.

There will also be an opportunity for dialogue with members at the AGM.

Our virtual AGM will be October 30, 7:00 - 8:15 PM.

2024 Tentative Competition Schedule

Tournament registration opens on our website two weeks before the tournament date and closes one week before the tournament date. Each competing student needs to complete a registration form.

We are actively working with coaches & schools to finalize tournament locations. If a tournament detail is listed as TBD, that means 'to be determined.' We will confirm event details as soon as possible on the event pages.
