Spotlight on Debaters

"It was a great experience for me as this is my first time participating debate tournament. I like to debate as it helped me to think in different ways and research different topics."

"In the first round, my team [won] but we did not win in the last round. So, then I [was] determined [to] win both rounds in the next tournament and hope to work hard before it. World Schools Debate Workshops

World Schools Debate is a unique and dynamic form of debate. This highly interactive style of debate allows debaters to engage each other, even during speeches. This challenging format requires good teamwork and in-depth quality argumentation. This 3 vs. 3 debate style typically confronts topics that are global in scope.

We are a offering virtual World Schools Style Workshop Series to students in grades 8 to 12 on February 22nd & February 23rd. Click the button for more details!

Based on performance in preparation and rounds, the written application, and the interview, three students will be selected to attend the Team Canada National Try Outs.

Annually, we bestow awards to members and volunteers who have shown unparalleled enthusiasm and commitment to debate.

Members are eligible for the following awards

Spirit of Debate Award (1 Elementary and 1 High School)
SEDA Youth Volunteer Award

McLeese Service Award

The only award that SEDA student members can nominate someone for is the Spirit of Debate Award. All other awards nominations must come from coaches, SEDA staff, or board members. Click the criteria button for more details.
