Spotlight on Debaters My debate experience was spectacular because I was able to debate with other students my age. I was able to express my opinion about why I think we should or shouldn't remove grade levels in elementary schools. I was able to feel confident about my opinion because my argument helped me express what I felt and nobody judges me even if they had a different opinion. We were able to disagree with our apponents respectfully and got feedback from our judges to improve our debating skills. Even if I didn't win I was still very proud of myself because it was my first time debating and I had the courage to do a tournament. Doing debate has taught me some very good skills I can use when public speaking. I had so much fun debating and listening to my opponents opinions. Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to debate. -Zineb, Grade 7 |

Did You Know: Rankings Do you know how teams are ranked at debate tournaments? First, teams are ranked by wins, and then by speaker score. At a three-round tournament, teams who have three wins are ranked higher than teams who have two wins and one loss. Then, teams are ranked by their average speaker score. |
