In 2005, we hosted the National Debate Seminar with events taking place and Walter Murray Collegiate, Evan Hardy Collegiate, and Holy Cross High School. The theme of the seminar was human rights and, using the cross-examination style, students debated the question, "Should Aboriginal sovereignty be a recognized as a human right"? |

A successful annual general meeting was hosted October 30, 2024. It was an opportunity to review the business of the past year, approve audited financial statements, appoint auditors and elect new board members. There were four board members with expiring board terms, and therefore four available seats on the board. Two board members Aly Sparks and Brady Knight completed their terms and will not be returning to serve on the board. Thank you for your years of service. We have appreciated your guidance and insight over the years. With four openings on the board, four candidates were accclaimed to the board. Jennifer Peak and John Costa agreed to continue their service, and we welcomed two new additions, Will Shevkenek and Isabelle Monsman. The updated board now comprises: - Mueez Rafiquie - President
- Rafay Ahmed - Vice-president
- Will Shevkenek - Treasurer
- John Costa - Secretary
- Jennifer Peak - Past President
- Ishita Mann
- Isabelle Monsman

Dedicated to promoting civil and substantive public debate, Re:Solved is designed for all students aged 13-18 to fuel their interest and participation in global competitive public speaking and debate. Re:Solved asks students to create and upload a six- to eight-minute persuasive speech on a given topic. These are judged by adults from all over the world and the top 32 students will enter the debate phase. The Final Debate Tournament will be held in Toronto on April 26, 2025, and the four finalists will be flown to Toronto to compete, with hotel, airfare and food expenses covered. It is free to enter and the speeches are due December 10. |
