| 1996 was the 5th year SEDA members participated in a televised Canada Day Debate. The debate was videotaped by Cable Regina for telecast on July 1. Nolan Berg and Alan Chicoine of Yorkton High School Defeated Tyler Mudrey and Arjun Venkatraman of Bedford Road. |

More than 40 high school students from across Saskatchewan participated in the 1997 historical model legislature in the Legislature Building. Erin Weir of Campbell Collegiate was voted Top Parliamentarian. Students debated actual bills from the early 60’s. Many debaters dressed up in 60’s style clothes! |

Theme: Law The Provincial Championship will be a hybrid event. Day one, March 14th, will take place virtually. Day two, March 15th, will take place at Luther College High School in Regina. Provincial invitations will be sent by February 14. This year the provincial championship will be very competitive due to limited host capacity. You can see full qualifying criteria here. We are grateful to the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan for their generous funding for the event. We are excited to celebrate our 50th year in the Regina where SEDA began! |

Annually, we bestow awards to members and volunteers who have shown unparalleled enthusiasm and commitment to debate. The descriptions of the various awards are noted below: The Spirit of Debate Award is given to one elementary debater and one high school debater of outstanding character who are role models and leaders within their clubs and the debate community. Nominees demonstrate integrity, sportsmanship, inclusiveness and an enthusiasm for debate and learning. The SEDA Youth Volunteer Award recognizes a high school member who has significantly contributed to the SEDA community through their volunteer service. This award comes with $125. The SEDA Meritorious Volunteer Award is presented to a volunteer whose service goes beyond regular coaching/judging/hosting duties. The McLeese Service Award is awarded to a volunteer who have served SEDA over the course of many years and made outstanding contributions to the debate community. Student members can nominate someone for the the Spirit of Debate Awards. All other award nominations must come from coaches, SEDA staff, or board members. Information on how to nominate will be emailed to members by January 27, 2025. Nominations will close March 1, 2025. |

Elementary Prepared Motion: This house would privatize the sale of water. High School Prepared Motion: This house would break up energy conglomerates. Beginner Impromptu Motion: This house prefers that lawn be replaced with edible landscapes. Intermediate, Novice, and Open Impromptu Motion: This house believes that the commercialization of Thrifting has done more harm than good. |
